Melendrez wins Major 1 and $6K+ with net score of 145.8 at Thorntree

Congratulations to Sam Melendrez, who took advantage of local knowledge at an extremely difficult Thorntree CC to win the FairWay Tour's first major of the season. It was a perfect weekend for golf with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60's both days. But the course got the best of the record field of 51 players, which was the most for a 2-day major in the tour's 11-year history. The tricky layout featured fast, grainy undulating greens and very fast fairways because of the dormant conditions. Melendrez really did his damage on the very first nine of the tournament, shooting a net score of 31.9 and holding on from there to win the event with a 2-day total of 145.8, or 1.8 over par. The tour's first event of 2012 in Tulsa will be next weekend at Forest Ridge GC in Broken Arrow...another monster! That weill be followed on Sunday, March 11th by TPC at Las Colinas, with greens currently pushing 13 on the STIMPMETER!!! We hope to see you at our next event because "IF YOU DONT TEE IT UP YOU CAN'T WIN!
