Kelly wins $1902 at Old American; Summer events look very attractive

Derek Kelly, a member at the difficult Thorntree CC in DeSoto, TX, fired an even par score of 71 at The Old American GC in The Colony, TX Saturday to win first place with a net score of -3.2 and take home a total of $1902. The golf course was very playable on this day as their was very little wind and soft conditions from the recent rain. Kelly, Raiford and O'Keefe all matched par with gross scores of 71. Just weeks ago, a gross score of 70 was good enough to get through U.S. Open Qualifying at this venue. Don't kid yourself, just because tghe FairWay Tour uses handicaps doesn't mean there aren't some incredibly talented players on our tour! A quick sample reveals Bill Glasson, who played the first event of the season at Waterchase, finished 5th in the Champion's Senior PGA Tour Major at Shoal Creek in Alabama over the weekend. Derek Smith, who fired 63 at Silverhorn GC last week on our tour, missed the Byron Nelson by a single stroke at Lantana as did Zach Rezentes...both FairWay Tour regulars. Jerod Turner checks in at number 6 on the all-time FairWay Tour money list with over $50,000 in earnings but hasn't played since 2008 because he qualified for the PGA Tour and is currently on the Nationwide Tour. In short, these players recognize the value of quality competition and the FairWay Tour provides just that each and every week.
