Luck Runs Dry For Leaders...Brownell, Murphy End Droughts

The FairWay Golf Tour held two events over the weekend of March 8-9. On Saturday at kickinbird GC in Edmond, OK, Mike Brownell of Tulsa ended a streak of four consecutive 1-Day events where he finished out of the money by less than 1 stroke. Persistence paid off for Mike on this day, however, as Tony Proctor suffered back to back three putts on the 15th and 16th. Mike saw the tables turn in his favor as his net score of -0.9 edged Proctor's score of -0.1. Nice job, Mike! On Sunday at Tangle Ridge GC in Cedar Hill, TX Sam Murphy wins with style on his home course, beating the field by three stokes with a net score of -3.9. Sam likes to win by wide margins as his last victory was a tour record -9.9 at Thorntree CC in the summmer of '07. Sam's gross score of 77 was his first round under 82 in over 10 tries since the stellar 73 at Thorntree CC last year. Can you say hot and cold? In other news Sunday, Jamison Badders continued his struggles to finish rounds as he faltered down the stretch for the third consecutive event. Jamison was in position to win the final major of the year at Split Rail in 2007 before double bogeying the 18th. On Sunday, he was going to the 18th at -1.9 before again double bogeying. Meanwhile, fellow competitor Shane Carlisle birdies 16 and 18 to capture second place with a net score of -0.3. "I had a bad swing thought on 18 tee box", said Badders as he found the water with his drive and had to settle for third place at +.1.
