Stark shoots 71.1 to win first event of 2013 in Austin as weather holds up

Bobby Stark was the only player to break his handicap on the tight and challenging Lakeway CC course in Austin, TX today. The 56 year old FairWay Tour veteran used several clutch 6-10 ft par putts coming down the stretch and a bounce off the tree from outside the OB stakes back into play on the 18th hole to win the event by 1 stroke over Chad Roden. The bail bonsdsman and cop battled it out all day long but Roden's drive wasn't as fortunate on 18 as his ball bounced past the OB stakes and out of play. It was tight at the top of the leaderboard as 72.5 finished third and two 73's rounded out the top 5 for this event. The weather held up as a mist in the morning turned into an overcast and mild 71 degree January day. I am currently driving up I-35 and it's 27 degrees as I reach OKC! The tour has a season opening tripleheader next weekend due to the Tour-18 Houston rainout January 5th. Buffalo Creek will be played Saturday in Dallas. It is one of the best course fee values on the tour at $35 and currently in great shape. Also Saturday, Derek Watson will be holding his first event in West Texas at Andrews County Golf Course. And finally, Sunday the rainout makeup will be played at Tour-18 Houston. We hope you will come join us because "If you don't tee it up you can't WIN!"
