Johnston Only Player To Break Net Par In First Major Victory at Dornick Hills Fall Classic


The sky was sunny, the greens firm and the fairways green on this spectacular weekend for golf in Southern Oklahoma. Charles Johnston brought with him a game that fried the field almost as good as the club fried their chicken Sunday afternoon here at Dornick Hills CC. Johnston, a 5 handicapper and hospital administrator from nearby Pauls Valley, OK won his first major on our tour in 18 tries thanks to a sizzling round of -4.2 on Saturday afternoon, the gross score of 72 was his best single round score in over 120 rounds on tour dating to April 2003...He followed that round with a net score of +1.6 (+7 gross) for a 36 hole total of -2.6 and $2450...Jeff Higgins, out of Winter Creek CC in Blanchard, OK, made the strongest move on Sunday with a net score of -3.2 (71), which was good enough to sweep the nassau and net divisions for Sunday and move him from 11th pl to 5th pl. in the 36 hole event with a net total of +4.6 ($1130). Other top finishers were runner up Matt Best at +.9 ($1580), 3rd place Derek Watson at +2.5 ($1280) and 4th pl Chuck Taylor at +3.4 ($900) Please go to results page and click on event to view full results.
