Lewey wins shootout at Fossil Creek and $7000!

Congratulations to Jeff Lewey of Lantana, TX, winner of Super Major #5 @ Fossil Creek GC in Ft. Worth TX! For the tour director, this was the most unique event I have ever hosted! For starters, it rained 4 inches the night before the event and flooded the bridges leading to the 16th and 17th holes. The 1:30PM Saturday start was the toughest call ever made as the bridges were still impassable and a huge glob of red was lurking on the radar and headed straight for the course. But future track kept saying the storm would move south so the event started on time. As it turned out, the water receded from the bridges and the players enjoyed absolutely perfect weather for the entirety of the event. But the saturated ground left us with no choice but to play the ball "UP" in the fairways and bunkers. The "Stripe Show" that ensued was quite impressive! This tour uses handicaps but that doesn't mean there isn't great golf being played by great golfers. 3 players shot 66 or lower Sunday before adding strokes to their score with plus handicaps, including Justin Bates bogey free 64 for a net score of 66.7. But that was not quite enough to catch Lewey. The 3 handicap held on for a 1 under par 71 after reaching 6 under par himself thru 11 holes! The net score of 68 combined with his day 1 score ended up edging out upstart Ryan Cummings and Bates by 1 stroke. At the end of the day there was a low, middle and high handicapper finishing top 3 and a host of others, with a range of handicaps, finishing in red numbers! The season is heating up and this week looks great for golf! Come join us Thursday afternoon at Coyote Ridge GC in Carrollton, TX or Sunday morning at Rose Creek GC in Edmond, OK because..."If you don't tee it up you can't win!"
