Graham Wins First West Texas Event @ Diamondback GC With Net Score of -2

Congratulations to Mark Graham of Fort Smith, Arkansas, winner of the FairWay Tour's first event in West Texas and a total of $1230.00. The tourney was a success as the 1 handicap shot a gross score of 70 on the par 71 layout designed and ran hands on by Charles Coody. Scoring was close like always on the FairWay Tour as Derek Watson, a +0.5, shot a gross score of 70 for a net score of 70.5 to take home second place money. This event went close to the chalk as the 2 lowest handicaps in the field of 24 took 1st and 2nd place and were the only players to break net par (their gross scores were also under par) on a beautiful day for golf. Rounding out the top six to finish in the money (actually 7 as their was a tie for 6th) were scores of even par 71 (9 hcp), 71.8 (1.2 hcp), 71.9 (1.1 hcp), 72 (2 hcp) and 72 (8 hcp)...The accuracy of this tour's handicap system requires using decimal points when calculating a player's course handicap from their handicap index (hcp index times slope rating/113 = course hcp) as there would have been a 2-way tie for 2nd and 4-way tie for fourth at this event using whole numbers. A quick look at past results from 2011 and beyond reveals the same to be true at almost every tournament played. The FairWay Tour believes it is necessary to identify a winner as often as possible. The best stat I can find for scoring in a net event is this...the string of consecutive events on the FAIRWAY TOUR where shooting your hcp cashes a check has now reached 35 straight tournaments dating to last June when 71.9 (.1 under!) finished last place in the money 6/26/10 at Winter Creek CC. Also, 14 of the 24 players entered in the West Texas event received some type of return on their investment. And finally, one last stat worth noting: The FAIRWAY TOUR has paid $106,187 to ONLY 93 players (all players in same flight with 12 or less hcp) so far in 2011, easily the largest payout in the business. Please go to our website, which is also the best, where you will find 10 years worth of scoring and data, along with player stats, current and career proactive money lists ($1,827,696 and counting pd since 2001) and more.
