King Eagles 18 to break his handicap and win $10,000 with 142.5 net score on par 144 Tangle Ridge GC

Congratulations to Corby King, the 1 handicap fired a net score of 142.5 on the par 144 Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Cedar Hill, TX. The weather was near perfect both days and the course was in good condition. Corby won in dramatic fashion by nailing a fast breaking slider for eagle on the last hole to edge out hard charging Derek Watson by less than a stroke and collect a total of $10,350. "Had it not gone in I was looking at a possible par because it was moving fast", King said with a wide grin on his face as the results were tallied. The final standings were so close that if he ended up with par on the hole he would have finished 6th and collected $1150 instead of $10,000...WOW!!! King was a 1.5 handicap on day 1 but a net score of 72.5 dropped him to a 1 handicap for day 2 even though he trailed first round leader Rocky Milhem by almost 6 strokes. But King made the eagle on 18 for a gross score of 71 and a net score of 70...good enough to collect the winner's check! Watson, a +1.6 hcp, fired gross scores of 75 on Saturday and 66 on Sunday. He was the only other player to break his handicap at 143.4 and received a $5,000 check for his efforts. What a fantastic finish to an event that literally any of the 648 players with a scoring history on the FairWay Tour could have won. The field of 54 players was the largest 2-Day Event ever and the money was absolutely there for the taking!! The tour is adding players each week and now has 782 players in its database. We have now paid $2,054,675 to our members since 2001 and are poised to break the record single year payout of $344,199 in 2004. And finally, there is now $8,975 in the prize fund for the top ten points winners in the Red River Cup Bonus Pool. We are going to be extremely close to reaching our goal of paying $10,000 in bonus cash to the top 10 points winners. Those in the top 20 can climb the chart by continuing to participate in remaining events and those in the top 10 can move into the top 3 as outside commitments are preventing 2 of the top 4 in the current standings from participating in the remainder of our events as one is scheduled for surgery and the other is a hunting guide. The Top 5 finishers in the remaining events receive the same amount of bonus points regardless of the size of the field! We hope to see you at our next event because...Ask Corby King... "IF YOU DON'T TEE IT UP YOU CAN'T WIN!
