Waldrip Outlasts Winter Creek Gang to Win Major #1 with a Score of +0.5

Logan Waldrip, a zero handicapper, pulled off his first major victory on the FairWay Tour with steady play (gross scores of 72-73) and some misfortune on the closing hole from his competitors. It appeared as though local knowledge would prevail on this course as 3 out of the top 5 after round 1 were Winter Creek members, including Lance Ledbetter (67.6) and William Belknap (68.1) who both played exceptional on the first day of the event. Ledbetter was in command for the first 17 holes on Sunday and had a 3 stroke lead going into the 18th and needed only to make double bogey to win the championship when the golf gods decided to put their spin on the end of this event. Lance would have made Jean Van DeVelde proud as he recorded a nine on the 36th hole to finish third. William Belknap slipped past Ledbetter into 2nd place but easily could have won the event because of his red hot back nine on Saturday...or maybe I should say back 8 as he did his Van DeVelde impression on the 18th as well. The 4 handicapper was 4 under par gross on the back nine alone heading into the 18th on Saturday when he recorded an 8 to finish at 68.1. Congratulations to Logan, who cashed a winner's check totaling $4355.00.
